Bona is a Swedish wood-floor coating brand widely used in residential, commercial and sports applications. We offer Bona water-based finishes as a premium option for owners who want a higher-end coating system; Bona coatings generally cost more than standard water-based or oil-based varnish.

Bona produces a range of waterborne and oxygen-crosslinking polyurethane finishes for hardwood floors. Common residential options are Bona Domo (1-component water-based, quick-drying, light-traffic / residential) and Bona Mega (water-based with oxygen-crosslinking PU, suited to offices, hotel rooms, premium homes and demanding residential floors). Bona Drifast colour stains and Bona Mix&Fill gap filler complement the coating range. Sports floors use the Bona SuperSport system (two-component waterborne PU).
Standard water-based and oil-based varnishes are durable, well-proven options at a lower price point. Bona finishes typically add cost (often 20–40% more on the coating line of the quote, depending on system) in exchange for tighter quality control, faster recoat times, lower odour and well-documented technical data sheets. The right choice is one of budget, expected usage and indoor air-quality preferences.
Premium homes and showpiece rooms, commercial spaces with frequent foot traffic, indoor sports floors and projects where indoor air quality and quick re-use are priorities. For routine residential refinishing where budget is the main driver, standard varnish grades are usually adequate.
Bona finishes are available in matt, satin, semi-gloss and gloss tiers. Satin is the most commonly requested sheen for residential floors because it hides minor surface marks better than gloss while still showing wood grain clearly. Owners specifying a high-gloss look should expect highlights, reflections and a more “mirror-like” surface — visible in the project photo on this page.
